Whangaehu Hut
The Whangaehu Valley is a quiet outpost of the Tongariro National Park. Located on the east side of Mount Ruapehu, this cute little hut visited year round by groups wanting to get away from it all. Maintained by the CNI section of the NZAC.

Facilities: 6 bunks, water tank, some utensils
Access: Off Desert Rd to Tukino Skifield, then 1.5hrs on poled/cairned route from road end, 15m marker pole close to the hut

Keys: Hut not locked. If you have a 4WD and want access throungh the locked gate keys can be obtained from the Hut Booking Officer, $20 key deposit. A key to the access road is also held by the Wellington Section. Currently it is held by the AIC Coordinator for the Instruction Course. Otherwise it will be available from the Section Gear Officer. The current AIC coordinator is Pete de Joux (pdj@nzalpine.wellington.net.nz) and the gear officer is Garth London (gear@nzalpine.wellington.net.nz).
Fees: Members $5, non-members $10 per night, payable to the National Office, PO Box 786, Christchurch.
