AGS Rockwall - Update 20/02/2013

After many working bees at the Long-side of the AGS Rockwall the areas known as 'Deffust/Moral Dilemma' and 'Samarcand' have been stabilised with wire mesh and bolts.
New anchors have been installed on some climbs.
THESE AREAS ARE NOW OPEN FOR CLIMBING

Special thanks to Brad White, Colin Megson, Dave Ackery, Drew Scott, Ant Stead, Magnus Hammarsal, Peter Cammell, and many others who donated their time.

Bolt etiquette
Ring bolts have been installed above 'Samarcand' and 'Bandersnatch'. Please do not use them for top roping. Place two 'quick draws' on the ring anchors for top-rope climbing.

Helmets are still necessary. After the dry summer, rock-fall is a high hazard. Please report any rock-fall activity to Peter Cammell

Registration here is a condition of climbing. Please make sure every climber is registered.

Hazard update
I have asked the school to close the area above 'Orangutang' and 'Silver Surfer'. Many loose rocks need stabilising with mesh. This is a high hazard area. Please don't climb there until further notice.

Auckland Section of the NZAC

The Auckland Section of the NZ Alpine Club runs a variety of alpine, climbing & other trips throughout the year and new members are always welcome. We have a club meeting on the second Monday night of each month (may be changed for public holidays), and we also organise special events such as the Banff Film Festival or international speakers throughout the year. We run instruction courses in both snowcraft and rock climbing during the year and there is some hire gear available for members. The Auckland Section looks after the Ruapehu hut in the Tongariro National Park which provides a base for climbing, ski-touring or just getting away from the city.

Please feel free to come along to a club meeting or email one of the committee members for more information.

Contact the Meetings Organiser with questions about meetings, or if you'd like to be a speaker or help out at meetings.
