The Auckland committee has just begun planning for Snowcraft 2018 and details are expected to be available after the May club meeting.
The course is open to club members only, if you would like to register your interest and be advised when bookings open, please complete the registration form here and you will be contacted when the course details are finalized.
WHat is it?
This is an introductory course focused on taking participants new to mountaineering into the mountains to gain skills, confidence and experience in the alpine environment.
The 2017 course consisted of two weekends down at Mt Ruapehu in July and August and theory nights in Auckland prior to each weekend. The format for 2018 is still TBC.
To get the most out of the course, you need to attend both weekends and all theory nights, and be prepared to acquire (beg, borrow or hire) the necessary gear (some hire gear available) and suitable clothing/boots.
- moving on snow using ice axe and crampons
- evaluating terrain for safe travel
- using ropes & snow anchors
- avalanche transceiver use
2018 DATES TBC
Theory Night 1
Tuesday 20th June from 7pm at The Dominion Bar, upstairs. This theory night will cover the gear needed for the course. The reason we hold this night over a month in advance is to give you enough time to beg, borrow or buy the gear needed. Remember we have rental gear too.

Here list of gear that is needed. But remember as a club member you have access to the clubs rental gear, which we recommend you use before invest in our own gear.
If you have any queries regarding purchasing gear, contact the Course Coordinator. We don't want to see you purchase gear that is unsuitable.
HOW TO PAY
The total course fee is $800. If you prefer, you can pay a $100 non-refundable deposit to secure your spot on the course but the balance needs to be paid in full by 30 June 2018 or your place may be given away. After 30 June 2018 there are no refunds.
NB: Please include “SnowCraft18” and your name in your deposit details. It may take a couple of days for the payment to appear in the bank account due to bank clearance times.
