This is an introductory course focused on taking participants new to mountaineering into the mountains to gain skills, confidence and experience in the alpine environment.
The course consists of 2 weekends down at Mt Ruapehu (July & August) and 2 theory nights in Auckland prior to each weekend. To get the most out of the course, you need to attend both weekends and all theory nights, and be prepared to acquire (beg, borrow or hire) the necessary gear (some hire gear available) and suitable clothing/boots.


What to Expect:

- moving on snow using ice axe and crampons

 

- evaluating terrain for safe travel

 

- using ropes & snow anchors

 

- navigation

 

- avalanche transceiver use

This course is very popular and the limited places typically fill up quickly.
A non-refundable deposit will be required to secure your place.

Places are limited and we work on a first in, first serve basis. The total course fee is $500 and needs to be paid in full by 30 June 2012 or your place may be given away. After 30 June 2012 there are no refunds.The course is only open to NZAC club members so you will need to join before the commencement of the course to qualify.

The total course fee is $500. If you prefer, you can pay a $100 non-refundable deposit to secure your spot on the course but the balance needs to be paid in full by 30 June 2011 or your place may be given away. After 30 June 2012 there are no refunds.
