Ruapehu Winter roundabout - 2007

The Auckland section has had a great few months! Heaps of well attended trips have been going off!
The season kicked off with the Alpine Taster weekend. A ridge climb up to the well iced summit of Tongariro in prefect weather was the climax to an awesome weekend which gave 12 people their very first taste of the alpine wonderland. It was a fantastic trip in no small part due to the efforts of John Boon, Brandon and other club members whose and friendliness and support made for a great trip.
Instructors’ weekend: The SnowCraft instructors had a great weekend on the mountain refreshing their skills prior to the snowCraft weekend.
Glenn Pennycook’s series of ice climbing weekends have been awesome and a huge thanks to him for his massive efforts: very much appreciated. There’s a real ice climbing buzz in the club. Nice work, Glenn!
The Triple Peak Challenge – again another stellar weather weekend. Ian Wallace oragnised a cracking trip taking on Girldestone, Mitre and Turangi in a day. An unforgettable (if long!) day on the mountain and complemented by a day of ice climbing on the Sunday.
SnowCraft: weekend one went off brilliantly, not such good weather, but hey, anyone can mountaineer in good weather, it’s bad weather when those skills really get put to the test!
