Aid Climbing Instruction course - May 2010

Forecast: Overcast with heavy rain, …grey over the whole North Island. Oh no, we thought! But luckily, the weather decided to spare us from a day of miserable weather. On a bright sunny morning, keen NZAC members headed to the aid climbing introduction day organised by Steve Mcinally at the long side of Quarry. The aid climbing gear was laid out and the portaledge had been set up. Steve explained the use of aid climbing gear and gave us a demo. Then, we all went off to have a go. As soon as we placed the fourth piece of gear, the rain started to kick in, followed by the thunder. Despite the weather we all had a fabulous day learning to aid climb, such a good skill to have, especially going up climbs that you can’t normally do! Can’t wait to do it again. Thanks Steve! - Charis Wong
