The Whangaehu Valley is a quiet outpost of the Tongariro National Park. Located on the east side of Mount Ruapehu, this cute little hut visited year round by groups wanting to get away from it all. Maintained by the CNI section of the NZAC.

Access: Off Desert Rd to Tukino Skifield, then 1.5hrs on poled/cairned route from road end, 15m marker pole close to the hut

Keys: Hut not locked.
Access: If you have a 4WD you can drive to the Tukino Field carpark and walk from there. During summer the road can be closed and want access through the locked gate keys can be obtained from the CNI section. A $20 key deposit required. A key to the access road is also held by the Wellington Section. Currently it is held by the AIC Coordinator for the Instruction Course. Contact the Wellington Section via the website.
