Crag information: There are a number of crags around Whakapapa. We may go to Whakapapa Gorge (https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/new-zealand/tongariro-national-park/area/585779421) and Mead’s Wall (https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/new-zealand/tongariro-national-park/area/2610942591).

What to expect: This is a North Island Meet. You must be fully self sufficient in lead climbing or have a predetermined climbing partner with suitable skills to look after you. Do not turn up expecting there to be an experienced person to set up top ropes for you.

There are a mixture of sport and trad routes, please check the guidebook before signing up to make sure there are suitable climbs for your ability. There is always present danger of loose rock and helmets must be worn whenever climbing and belaying.

Gear: Please bring a helmet and appropriate sport or trad climbing equipment.
